Corn:  CK18 +1.00¢, CN18 +1.00¢, CU18 +1.25¢, CZ18 1.00¢

  • Corn futures holding a small bounce at midday
    • Front-month corn futures posted a 9^6 cent decline on the week last week
    • Early estimates for US corn planting progress are pegged at 7-8% complete (last year was pegged at 17% complete)
    • Open window to start planting this week in much of Nebraska, chance of showers tomorrow but the remainder of the week remains clear
  • Export inspections were supportive as we continue to post improved numbers
    • We are getting closer to reaching the USDA’s estimate.
    • Corn inspections reached 67.7 million bushels on the week surpassing the top end of the trade estimate range (47.2-66.9 mil. bu.)
    • Soybeans: SK18 -9.75¢, SN18 -10.00¢, SX18 -7.50¢
    • Export inspections quiet at 17.3 million bushels, but within trade estimates
      • We’re 225 million bushels behind last year’s inspections and need to average 25.9 million bushels per week to reach USDA’s estimate
    • Soybeans are in no man’s land looking for support
      • SN18 100 DMA $10.2575, 200 DMA $10.16
      • Wheat: KWH18 +.75¢ MWH18 -9.50¢
      • HRS wheat in MPLS trading lower today, likely influence by the return of more seasonal weather making planting prospects better than a week ago.
      • HRW wheat futures up slightly as weekend rains will likely be too little too late for many in the Southern Plains.
      • For the 4th consecutive week inspection were higher than the previous week.
        • Range of trade guesses for this week were 12.9MBu to 20.2MBu and actual inspection came in at 22.8MBu.
      • Weather
      • 0-60 hour changes:  very few, chances still present for most of Plains
      • 60-120 hour: heavier precip south, Plains still dry, Midwest action still light if any
