6/20/18
Corn:  CN18 -1.75, CU18 -1.75, CZ18 -1.50, CH19 -1.50
  • Trade is putting in a very solid dime trading range
  • Prices tried to recover in early trade but were squashed once again
  • The new shorts that have entered the market are probably here to stay until either:
    • A major heatwave hits the Corn Belt
      • But when you look at the forecast, it looks safe for several more days
    • Or…world trade returns to somewhat normal conditions
    • Even though, corn isn’t directly mentioned in tariff-gate, being compassionate to beans is inevitable
  • There is a big report due next Friday and nobody is whispering a peep about it in the marketplace.
  • Soybeans:  SN18 -8.50, SQ18 -8.50, SU18 -8.50, SX18
  • Beans are trading unchanged and smack dab in the middle of a 19 cent trading range
  • If Team Trump can pull a rabbit out of the hat before July 6th it appears China has lots of beans yet to cover
    • How much will PNW and US Gulf basis firm if the US can get those bushels on the books?  Hopefully Trump and team will have a very busy 4th of July this year and get a deal struck.
    • Wheat: KWN18 -4.5¢ MWN18 -.25¢
    • Wheat trading mostly lower in sympathy with other grains again today, has traded both sides.
    • Minneapolis wheat futures recovering after hitting long term support, but not much…
    • Vomitoxin maybe a concern this year with persistent rains.
    • Weather
    • 0-60 hour changes: mostly unchanged, solid precip through heart of belt
    • 60-120 hour:  lighter southern coverage, lighter ECB as well
    • Rains look to keep falling to finish the month of June
    • How much is too much?
      • We hear reports of IL received up to 6” yesterday
        • Some may have gotten too much but it is safe to say that much of the Corn Belt is now well watered
    • Past 7 Day Rainfall Map:

While livestock and insect haulers have an exemption to electronic logging device (ELD) rules through Sept. 30, 2018, other agriculture commodity haulers will see their current exemption run out at midnight on June 18. However, another new bill introduced last week would delay enforcement.
