7/17/18
Corn: CU18 +6.25¢, CZ18 +6.25¢, CH19 +5.75¢
  • National corn ratings dropping 3 percentage points has the market fired up today
    • MO ratings down 15 points this week…it will be interesting to see how much more they take it down if they continue to miss rains. Only North Carolina is behind its 5-year average on silking progress
    • If today’s gains hold, it will be just the 11th time in 2018 corn only traded on the plus side for the day
      • For comparison, corn has traded only in negative territory for the day 14 times this year.
      • Soybeans:  SQ18 +8.50¢, SX18 +8.25¢, SF19 +8.25¢, SH19 +8.50¢
      • I don’t want to jinx it….. but we could see a second consecutive higher close for soybean futures?
        • Is no news good news when it comes to trade tariffs?
        • National soybean crop ratings dropped 2 points to 69% G/E
          • Missouri is the leader lower down 8 points vs. last week. KS down 6 points, Ohio and SD down 5 points Nebraska unchanged from last week and remains at 83% G/E
        • Soybean blooming is well ahead of average US is 65% blooming vs. 49% last year and 5-year average of 45%
        • Wheat: KWU18 +11.00¢ MWU18 +6.25¢
        • Spring wheat crop maintaining strong ratings in yesterday’s NASS report.
          • U.S. crop unchanged this week 80% Good/Excellent  Versus 34% G/E LY and a 5 year average of 62.8%      MN 86% G/E   ND 83% G/E
          • The market working higher today in part due to the idea that U.S. export values are getting more competitive with other export markets to help spur demand.
